Speech Therapy

Mobi Healthcare’s Speech Pathologists study, diagnose and treat people of all ages with communication, swallowing or feeding difficulties.

Communication Disorders

Our therapists use a variety of programs to treat and address communication difficulties. This involves the identification, definition and diagnosis of a range of speech and language disorders at an aged appropriate level.

We can also assist in assessment and provision of Alternative and Augmentative Communication (ACC), which may include communication boards or hi-tech devices.

Speech and language difficulties can arise from a wide range of factors. These include:

  • hearing impairments

  • cognitive or other developmental delays

  • weak oral muscles

  • birth defects such as cleft palate,

  • autism spectrum disorder

  • cerebral palsy

  • respiratory problems

  • swallowing disorders

  • stroke or brain injury

  • neurological condition e.g parkinsons

  • other congenital disorders such as stuttering or apraxia of speech

Swallowing or Feeding Difficulties

Our speech pathologists will assess and diagnose potential issues and then provide assistance. This can include provision of mealtime management plans, strategies for improved swallowing function and risk management and, provision of education and training essential to maximise our clients quality of life.

Patients with swallowing or feeding difficulties may find chewing, drinking, sucking and managing saliva challenging. If this is not managed well then it can result in poor nutrition and compromised chest health that heightens the risk of choking.

Swallowing difficulties can result from the following conditions:

  • Stroke

  • Traumatic Brain Injury

  • Cerebral Palsy

  • Motor Neurone Disease

  • Parkinson’s Disease

  • Huntingtons Disease

  • Chromosonal Disorders

  • Spinal Disorders

  • Genetic Conditions
